How Much Does It Cost to File a PIT Tax Return in Poland in 2026? Most People Can Do It for Free

2026-03-05 Kategoria: About HR Work

Every year many workers in Poland ask the same question: how much does it cost to file a PIT tax return, and whether they need to pay an accountant or a company to do it for them.

In reality, most employees can file their PIT completely free of charge. If you worked under an employment contract (umowa o pracę) or a civil contract (umowa zlecenia), the Polish tax system usually already has most of the information needed to prepare your tax return.

Most of the data is automatically imported into the system, and your task is simply to review the information and confirm the declaration.

When You Need to File PIT in 2026

The tax return for the 2025 tax year in Poland can be submitted between 15 February and 30 April 2026.

By the end of February, your employer must provide you with a document called PIT-11, which contains information about your income, taxes paid, and social contributions from the previous year.

Based on this document, the Polish tax system automatically prepares your tax declaration.

How to File PIT for Free

The easiest way to file your tax return is by using the government online service Twój e-PIT.

In this system, the Polish tax administration:

  • automatically prepares your tax declaration

  • imports income data from your PIT-11

  • calculates taxes and contributions

  • assigns the correct form (usually PIT-37)

In most situations you only need to:

  1. log into the system

  2. review the data

  3. confirm the declaration

Once confirmed, your tax return is officially submitted.

Do You Need to Pay for Filing PIT?

Many companies offer paid assistance for filing tax returns. However, it is important to know that this is not required.

If you use the official government service Twój e-PIT, filing your tax return is:

  • completely free

  • available online

  • quick and simple

In most cases, the entire process takes just a few minutes.

What You Should Check Before Submitting

Even though the system automatically fills in most of the data, it is still important to carefully review your declaration before confirming it.

Pay particular attention to:

  • personal data

  • your bank account number for a possible tax refund

  • whether all income sources are included

  • whether you are eligible for tax deductions or allowances

Remember that the taxpayer remains responsible for the accuracy of the declaration.

What Happens If You Do Nothing

In many cases, if you use the Twój e-PIT system and do not take any action, your tax return may be automatically accepted after the filing deadline.

However, it is still recommended to review the declaration yourself. This allows you to:

  • verify that the information is correct

  • add tax deductions if applicable

  • check whether you are entitled to a tax refund
